Cis itself is a prefix word, but when referring to gender it is used to separate the fact that cisgender (Same gender / sex) individuals are not the same as Transgender (A person with sex / gender dissonance).

from what i’ve heard if it’s like cisgendered it’s someone who identifies as their physical gender. to differentiate from words like trans? because saying “normal people” would end up being really offensive in the cases where you’d use that word dang
